League One Fixture 30th January 2010 Charlton v Tranmere Rovers 1-1
I do get fed up watching and reporting on games where Charlton play more like a pub team than a professional outfit aspiring to promotion to the Championship next season!! Harsh words maybe but the Addicks fans expectations this season are that we should gain promotion by direct route as champions or runners up! The expectation is deserved but the performance is now waning!
All through the match Tranmere had excellent approach play without the finishing touch until in the second half with their first corner they caused enough confusion to ultimately cause Sam Sodje to head into his own net!
Although this spurred Charlton into action it took a bundled attempt by Bailey to level the match and dispite a couple of excellent chances to win the match Tranmere held their nerve and got bodies in the way to keep it level! Although in added time both teams hit the woodwork it was a poor performance by Addicks against the team 3 places from the bottom of League One!
Lets hope Walsall on Tuesday will yield 3 points!
Game Points Addicks poor 5/10 Tranmere 6/10 Officials 6/10 but 10/10 for 16,000 plus fans to brave the cold and pay good money for poor fayre!

League One Fixture 25th January 2010 Charlton v Leyton Orient 0-1
Not much you can say about this game apart from we were rubbish! In fact if the game had gone on for 180 minutes we probably still would not have scored!!
There are some players that are consistently becoming poorer and they are Shelvey, Basey, Sam Burton and Mooney! We need to up our game or we will become the also runs of League One and consign ourselves to playing in it next season also!
Game Points Addicks 4/10 Orient 7/10 Officials 7/10 but this weeks winner is Deon Burton for his greed just before half time when he could have passed to Shelvey on the break to guarantee scoring 1/10

League One Fixture 20th January 2010 Charlton v Hartlepool 2-1
Well this was a dogged affair where Addicks just didn't get it together and were fortunate to win!
We could not string more than a few passes together and let Hartlepool back into the game by giving away a senseless penalty!
Good points were Mooney and Waggy's goals and also Dickson's ruled out effort which many struggled to work out why!
But winning ugly is the mark of Champions so keep fingers crossed!!
Game Points Addicks 7/10 Hartlepool 5/10 Officials only 4/10 the but by far the winners were the hardy Hartlepool fans officially 111 but it looked like only 20 they get 11/10 and definately only 1/10 for the Borat lookalike semi naked streaker who if you missed him is viewed by clicking http://twitpic.com/yujw2 ! Enjoy if thats your bag!
Report FA Cup 1st Round Northwich Victoria v Charlton 8th November Final Score 1-0
As the Game was live on ITV any report I can write wouldnt do the match justice but here goes....
First half Northwich were by far the better team and should have been 2 goals up and second half we only started to threaten with about 20 minutes to go when Leon McKenzie and Deon Burton came on! Little too late since ten minutes to go Northwich scored the winning (only) goal!
Match Performance scores (out of 10) Officials a big 10 (they were exeptional) Nortwich Victoria 10 (they were also exeptional) Charlton 2 (and that is generous) and Izale McLeod 0 out of 10 for a discraceful elbow in the face of a Northwich Victoria player straight from the second half kick off which might earn him an FA investigation!
Report League One Fixture Carlisle v Charlton 31st October Final Score 3-1
Must say although this match started with nearly no chances for almost 40 minutes when two penalties come along in the manner that they did is strange! What the ref saw when after two fee kicks (one hitting the post) and two corners inside a few minutes he gave the Carlisle penalty which Harte duly dispatched after Ikeme saved his spot kick from the rebound! I think (although it was a foul) the ref evened it up by awarding Burton his 100th career goal from the spot and at half time it was 1-1!
Second half saw a concerted pressure by Addicks to march on but after a slip by loan player Omozusi Kavenagh fired in from long range! 2-1 to Carlisle! At this point we should have brought on Shelvey (or maybe before) but we waited too long and despite a triple substitution of Shelvey Mooney and Basey and trying to get back in the game Kavanagh pounced again to lift it over Ikeme and goodnight Addicks! 3-1 at the death but we were not really at the races today!
Match Performance scores (out of 10) Officials 4 Carlisle 7 Charlton 5 Deon Burton 100 (keep it up!)
Report League One Fixture Gillingham v Charlton 24th October Final Score 1-1
Weather conditions dictated some of the reasons why the Addicks display faltered at a time when we could go back to top of the table!
The First half was a bit of a false dawn as the only realistic chance Addicks had was when a penalty was waved away as Izzy McLeod was challenged in the area! Gillingham played their part and on balance probably just edged the goaless fist half!
Early second half pressure (most notably when we got our first corner of the match) and the chances count went up only for Gillingham to start coming back into the game! Then with just over 10 minutes to go we had what should have been the winner as Nutter deflected the ball past a despairing Royce in the Gillingham goal! 1-0 to Addicks but within 3 minutes Gillingham had levelled and looked more likely to go in front in the final minutes!
That said it was slightly comical to see an Addicks Beach Ball on the pitch in the second half and perhaps even more comical in the referee's manner to dispatch it from the field of play! However it did not aid us to the required win and Mooney only came on fo the last 15 minutes which is regretably not enough time to make his mark! Overall point gained rather than two lost!
Match Performance scores (out of ten) Officials 7 Gillingham 8 Charlton 8 Charlton Beach Ball -20 for a job not done!
Report League One Fixture Charlton v Huddersfield Town 17th October Final Score 2-1
Chilly day at the Valley today but not for the Reds who despite a first half mediocre performance went on to win a match where the final score was not flattering enough!
It was mostly Charlton for the early exchanges going close from the first corner then Sodje bullet header from the second corner opening the scoring! It was all going well although as I commented on Twitter that Izzy Mcleod would do well to stay on his feet (At half time he changed his boots! Does he follow me?) after a couple of promising chances went begging! But as the half drew to a close we were guilty of too many misplaced passes and sloppy play! Although the free kick that Huddersfield scored from was debatable it was coming! So at half time it was 1-1!
The second half was (in part due to the change of Semedo on for Spring) It was a power packed half from start to final whistle! On 48 minutes Izzy (new boots) McLeod headed in what was ultimately the winner! There were many more chances to extend the lead notably from Bailey Semedo Racon and McLeod but in the end it was missed opportunities (at both ends) and excellent keeping by both goalies! And where would a Valley game be complete without poor Officials missing penalties, handball and awarding free kicks for one side only to not award for the same offence the other way! CONSISTENCY please by the refferees and assistants for the future!
It was eventually a grand day out at the Valley and ended with Charlton top of the League! My outstanding praise for the Charlton Fans who sang their hearts out and ended with a rendition of "We are Top of the League"! AND WE ARE!

Match Report League One Fixture Charlton v Oldham Valley 10th October Final Score 0-0
The sun was out and the team line up was almost full strength with Spring still filling in for Semedo and Llera back in since Sodje was away on international duty! You could be forgiven for thinking it was all going to go well for the Addicks but you would be wrong!
Oldham had definately arrived with a game plan spending most of the game with 10 men behind the ball! They got very tight to any red shirt with the ball and disrupted the play to such an extent that the most notable chance of the half came from a deep run and 30 odd yard shot from Llera which the keeper put behind for a corner! And with possesion close to 60-40 in Charlton favour just about summed up the half!
The second half showed more intent and also chances where Llera (again?) and Youga both hit the crossbar but a succession of chances were either foiled by dogged Oldham defending or wayward finishing by our strikers! The Addicks were generally looking tired and in fairness wasted several goal scoring chances especially Izzy McLeod, although McKenzie came on for the last 15 minutes or so and looked a good prospect (Parky please get him on earlier in future and perhaps in preference over McLeod?) but couldnt influence the game enough to get all three points!
It was a sympton of the game there were only two bookings both for Oldham players and both for time wasting! The referee played his part also denying what looked to be a certain foul inside the box on one attack only to give a free kick for a similar challenge by a red shirt shortly after! In fact the referee's performance was rated in minus figures compared to both teams performance! It was so poor it was ridiculous for most of the match! He left the field after the match to resounding boos from all the home fans and chants usually reserved for men with almost no valuable relationships with the lady's!
Little wonder the final score it ended 0-0 but it should have been three points and level with Leeds at the top of League One!
Match Performance scores (out of 10) Officials -3 Charlton 6 Oldham 1 and Oldham's bus (parked in front of goal) 9
Match report JPT fixture Charlton v Barnet at the Valley 6th October 2009 Final Score 4-1
The Valley last night was the stricly Autumnal scene for the Addicks first venture into the Johnstones Paint Trophy!
The side was somewhat changed from the League side but under Competion Rules at least 6 first team players were in the starting 11 games this season!
From the kick off, the first 10 minutes were about finding their feet and a couple of half chances were spurned but on 12 minutes Bailey failed to clear from a Barnet corner and when the ball fell to O'Flynn he rifled in through a sea of players!
Within 3 minutes the Addicks were back in the game after a long clearance from Elliot found Bailey whose pass to McLeod gave the striker the opportunity to fire in an equaliser at the near post!
Despite the costant threat of Barnet's passing game gradually more and more chances fell to the home team until 5 minutes before the break great skill from Racon slid the ball through to Tamer Tuna who put the ball past the Barnet keeper! 2-1 to the Addicks!
Having got on top in the first half Addicks faced a determined Barnet side in the second half (much like their 200 or so fans that were singing right up to the final whistle) and it was only when just before the hour mark that the Addicks changes of Racon and Tuna off to be replaced by Stavrinou and Shelvey that the Home team stamped their authority on the game!
On 75 minutes a foul on McLeod gave Nicky Bailey the chance to extend the lead as he scored from an Exocet 25 yard kick which pinged the underside of the bar and in! Those who missed it on the night need to see the replays (hopefully) at Saturday's home game against Oldham! A contender for Goal of the Season!
Barnet never gave up and although there were many other chances (including a clearance from the final Addicks sub Mambo) the most polished and sweeping move of the night from Shelvey to McLeod and a peach of a pass to Wagstaff found him firing in from the edge of the box into the top left corner with 3 minutes to go! 4-1 Addicks who finished having used all 3 subs with just 10 men as McLeod went of ,hopefully as a precaution!
In all it was a great night for the Addicks and now only 4 matches to go before a possible Wembley appearance!
